What To Pack

Knowing what to pack on a cruise can be overwhelming with all the different dress codes. Don't worry Anchor Hanger here is here to help. Understanding your cruise ships dress code is key to deciding what to pack on your cruise holiday. What you pack will vary depending on your port of calls for your cruise holiday. What you would pack for a cruise to the Caribbean will be different then what you pack for a cruise to Alaska. You'll also want to consider the different activities you'll be taking part in and pack the appropriate clothes. If you plan to spend your port days at the beach, you'll want to pack swimsuits and cover ups. However, if you plan on going on adventure tours, you'll want to pack comfortable clothes and shoes.


Azamara Cruise Line

Azamara has a casual dress code throughout the day. Your typical daytime cruise attire is resort casual which includes shorts, casual dresses, skirts, blouses, capris, knit tops and pants. Don't forget to pack your sportswear and runners if you plan to be active or participate in any of the deck sports available on your voyage

Azamara does not allow tank tops, bathing suits, shorts, torn/distressed jeans, baseball caps or bare feet in the dining room or in any of the specialty restaurants. 

You are able to dine at the Windows Café with your swimsuit as long as you have a cover-up and some footwear.

There are no formal evenings on Azamara voyages and so it is not expected for you to dress formally.  You may dress formally if you would like to however it is not necessary. 

Carnival Cruise lines

Cruise wear for Carnival cruises will be a casual dress code through the day.  Evenings aboard your Carnival Cruise will mostly be casual, cruise casual. There are a few evenings aboard where a more elegant dress code is appropriate. On a Carnival cruise there will be 1-2 evenings that have a Cruise Elegant dress code. As with most cruises, if you do not wish to dress up on these evenings the Buffet restaurant is available for a more casual evening. 

Cruise Casual Evenings: 

On these evenings feel free to wear: casual dresses, skirts or trousers and blouses, summer dresses, capris, elegant shorts, jeans.

Carnival does request that you do no wear tracksuit trousers, basketball shorts, flip-flops, bathing clothes or cut-off jeans.

Cruise Elegant Evenings: 

On these evenings feel free to wear: cocktail dresses, pantsuits, elegant skirts, blouses and evening gowns.

Celebrity Cruises

Formal Night/Evening Chic: Evening chic has replaces formal attire, Its dresser than smart casual. Cocktail dress, skirt, pants or designer jeans with elegant top

7 night cruises 2 evening chic nights, 6 nights or less 1 night

Smart Casual: skirt, pants or jeans with casual top


Costa Cruises

Costa has a casual dress code throughout the day. The evening dress code varies through the voyage. You can expect casual, informal and formal evenings. 

Casual: Slacks and blouse, sundress or pantsuit

Informal: dress or pantsuit

Formal: Evening gown or cocktail dress

Most 3-4 nights voyages have 1 formal night, 7 nights have 2 and 10 have 3

**Bring a white dress for white night.

Crystal Cruises

Crystal Cruises has a casual resort wear dress code throughout the day. 

Casual: blouse, sweater, dress slacks, skirt, dress

Black Tie (optional): formal cocktail dress, evening gown or dressy evening separates

7 days or less, is Crystal casual only with no Black tie evenings, 8-10 days has up to one black tie evening, and 11-13 days has two Black tie evenings. one 7 days or longer there is a Crystal White Extravaganza where the suggested attire is white. 

Cunard Cruise Line

Cunard dress code during the day is casual. You can wear shorts and t-shirts and dress for comfort.

Smart Attire: skirt and a top, cocktail dress

Gala Evening: Black tie dress code. They have different themes such as black and white, roaring 20's.


Disney Cruise Lines

Disney has a cruise casual day time dress code. During your voyage there will be special themed nights.

Casual Night: no swimwear or tank tops

Pirate Theme:

Formal Night: dress or pantsuit

Semi Formal Night: dress, pantsuit

Palo Restaurant: dress, skirt, pants with a blouse

Remy Restaurant: dress to impress. Elegant. Cocktail dress, evening dress, pant suit or skirt and blouse

Holland America Cruise Line

Holland American has a casual dress code throughout the day. Evening dress codes vary through out the voyage.

Smart Casual: Skirts, dress, slacks and blouses

Formal: Evening gowns, cocktail dress

Most 7 night cruises have 2 formal nights

MSC Cruises

MSC has a informal casual day dress code

Informal Evening: Summer dress

Gala Evenings: formal gown, cocktail dress, pantsuit

Theme Parties: 60's and 70's floral gear for the Flower Glory Party, white clothing for the White Party, Something Green, White and Red for the Little Italy Entertainment

Norwegian Cruise Lines

Norwegian has a resort casual freestyle cruising dress code. 

Casual: summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capris pants, shorts, jeans and tops.

Smart Casual: slacks, jeans skirts and tops

Special Events: Themed Nights and Parties, Night out party get dressed up with a cocktail dress, all white for White Hot Party

Oceania Cruise Lines

Oceania has a resort or country club casual dress code during the day. For evening elegant resort wear is recommended


Paul Gauguin Cruises

Paul Gauguin has a country club or elegant resort wear dress code.

Casual Elegance: slacks and blouse, sundress, pantsuit


Princess Cruises

Princess has a leisurely dress code during the day

Smart Casual: skirts, dress or trousers with t-shirt or blouse

Formal: Evening gown, cocktail dress, pantsuits

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

During the day Regent has a resort style dress code
